Features are the highlights of the design concept which decorates the environment we are living in. Only a little change in the hue of the colour makes a difference in the whole picture and there is much more.

A good idea, a brave choice of colour can make a much stronger impact on your environment for only a little extra work.

You can lift the look of your room by putting a feature wall into the picture. Feature walls highlights a nice part of the surface with a different colour.

A feature wall can contain a special effect, a certain type of paint applied with a special technique: for example, criss-cross brush movements for a suede or metallic finish. There are rollers that can be made to suit whatever pattern you choose.

Creative finishes

Aged creative finish on an old job

A more individual way to give inspiration to the eye is using creative finishes. It is up to the applicator`s empathic and manual skills to create the desired atmosphere by using any kind of technique: washed, ragged, splashed, etc.

This is an example of a 3 colour combination applied with rag.

There is no limit to the colours or the ideas which you can try if it is in the right proportion to the environment and your goal to influence the atmosphere of the room.
In this dining room we had clear coated timber doors, white glossed frames, dark timber beams and a green feature wall decorated with vibrant pictures which really makes an impact on the viewer.

In this Hamilton Hill home, we used a deep grey colour to paint the entire theatre room dark and we used the same colour in combination with off-white to put features into the main bedroom.

The varnished timber doors make another interesting feature in contrast to the black and the white.

Wallpapering

Wallpapering is the old-new solution for an unconventional finish on walls. There is a wide range of wallpapers to choose from if you decide to go for this option.  Application and material are a bit more expensive then painting but the effect is more far reaching. Wallpaper will make a stronger impact on the area on which you are applying and will protect your wall surface better from chips or dirt.
